To improve the wear resistance of titanium and extend its service life, coating boron nitride thin films on the surface of titanium matrix was studied in this work. To obtain surface property enhancement, the samples were coated by isothermal sintering at 1000°C – 1400°C in a vacuum furnace for 2h, 4h or 6h. The microstructure of the thin film was investigated employing X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). To identify the composition of interlayers between BN and Ti, EDS analysis was run through the whole reaction zone.
