The Middle Palaeolithic culture has been widely distributed in the Ghataprabha basin, obtained from 113 sites. The majority of the sites are concentrated in the middle and lower reaches of the river Ghataprabha and the assemblage is comprised of scrapers of various types, points, borers and scraper cum borer and borer cum points. The studies conducted at the site Kovalli which lies in the lower reaches of Ghataprabha suggest that the Kovalli assemblage can be categorized as mixture of Middle Palaeolithic and late Middle Palaeolithic.
