A Boston man with such a name cannot be expected to be saintly, but we believe he has the spirit. This is another year when this staff hopes to bring year-long cheer through our present Holiday spirit, to the handicapped children of the Wielandsheim. This is a tradition of great importance to us, and we are always assured it is of great importance to those crippled youngsters. This is the year the ship sailed on even after the rats departed. This is the year Rose Beyer and Charlie Brown's sister shifted to the new math. This is the year that Hank and Ted and Dougland Beakes shifted to the new language. This is the year Jack Barnes went home, the most bourbonized and hypnotized departure in recorded history. This is the year Jim Umphrey spent the fall season in Turkey, that another assistant director checked out the program in Jiddha and Cairo. This is the year Vida Bandis brought a boudoir to 1 Zengerstrasse and dared to call it faculty logistics. This is the year, like last year and the year before, the water cooler on the third floor was hooked up, worked beautifully for three hours and all of one wet weekend. This is the year Renate Mergerle moved her office so that she was no longer an administrators deputy in charge of the women's john. This is the year Paul Caisse grew long hair and Dufke and Daly lost more of theirs. Later this evening you will see why Paul needs his long. This is the year, if it doesn't end in a few minutes, that will see Frances Matthews a draft widow. This is the year John McLauren leaves us hoping to better his academic record at College Park. We hope he realizes there are blondes and MGs there too. This is the year Carl Bock's German 176 came up entirely populated by Maryland free-loaders and one graduating senior . This is the year the average age of employees in the Registrar's office dipped alarmingly. Until we added Mrs. Laine last week, even with Claire and Gill and old man Mike, the average age was right at 17 years 2 months. This is the year the pod up on wolf's way-now that it has changed hands from Clutter, to Ferjo, to Mack the knife, will perhaps live up to its name. To be sure, this is the year of fecundity in the division. There can be no doubt that records have already been set, and to look around here tonight, are still being set. Gill Miller set a certain pace for switchboard room girls which will bear further watching. The Registrar's office has produced, and is still producing. The Language Supervisor has done more than train language teachers this year. The Corres are, as anyone can see, so swollen with expectation they didn't even come. Megerles have been birthing all over the place. Elaine of the printery went back to her old form early this year. Of course the Admissions shop continues to have mysterious and admirable control although it has been a tense year for Mrs. Reed. She still passes out those pills at five to five each night. Walt Owens takes his handout, I guess, and Dick Rolff may also have to fall in line. Brunhilde Brawn, as you know, had a sudden and convincing pregnancy one day last month. And I would like to illustrate the whole situation by asking my secretary to ease her way up here. Before we are required, because of his sophisticating tastes in German wines, to change it to Dr. Auslese (indeed before we have to change it to Dr. EE, short for Eiswein Ehrensberger), we wish to show you, Dean our affection with a memento commemorating your present title Dr. Spatlese.
