This project investigates the conceptions and ideologies of race in Puerto Rico and how these affect the ways in which Puerto Ricans discuss racism as well as blackness on the island. Since Puerto Rico is founded on the idea of being a society of one people, themselves a syncretic mix of three cultural roots, there is a widespread belief that racism and inequality based on race does not exist. Although many Puerto Ricans have internalized this ideology, this project examines where exactly blackness and African influence in Puerto Rico is located on the island
