Throughout evolution, vertebrates have adapted to aquatic and terrestrial environments, developing adaptive structures such as swim bladders, lungs, and locomotive organs, including fins and limbs. One of the identifying characteristics of tetrapod limbs is the pentadactyl state of five digits.
