The Physics of Baseball

The game of baseball is an important part of America\u27s history dating as far back as the early 19th century. The game has changed drastically over the years from the dead ball era of the early 20th century to the offensive explosion in the 1990s, but the physical rules and principles of the game have gone unchanged. Analysis of the physics of the game of baseball began in the 1940s and continues today. An examination of the flight of the ball as it projects and rotates through the air and the ball-bat collision dominate today\u27s baseball physics literature. Exploration of the Magnus effect, spin orientation, air resistance, the forces and implications of the ball-bat collision, as well as the effects of weather and altitude are presented
