This paper agues that comparative mythology is a valid and worthwhile endeavor by exemplifying careful comparative work in an analysis of the myths of Eve, in Genesis 2-3, and Pandora, in the Theogony and Works and Days. This paper further argues that comparison of these two myths offers surprising insights into the narratives, in this case, the insight that despite their misogynistic flavor, Pandora\u27s tales might depict gender relations with more equality than does the tale of Eve.
