How do Palestinian women understand their own roles within Palestinian society? Previous scholarship conducted in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) prioritizes the perspectives of female activists or ordinary women\u27s narratives of victimhood. I examine data collected in 2015 from participant observation and twelve semi-structured interviews with Palestinian women in the West Bank who do not participate in activist organizations. My research suggests that Palestinian non-activist women understand and engage with political and social factors that restrict their freedom. I argue that women exert their agency by defining their own roles in the national struggle and reproducing their subordinated position
