Kindergarten readiness is critical for continued success in school and many children labeled at-risk (due to socioeconomic status, race, or lack of educational experience) enter kindergarten behind their advantaged peers in many aspects of kindergarten readiness cognitively, academically, and socially. Quality preschool intervention programs can help combat the achievement gap between at-risk children and their more advantaged peers (Ramey & Ramey, 2004).
