Working from four horror films centered on monstrous heroes, I analyzed the ways that the films\u27 gender ideologies were manifested in narrative content and visual style. In each film, violence was not a consequence of female sexuality\u27s mere existence, but of how the monstrous protagonists were victimized by both the characters around them and the patriarchal system under which they lived
