The theory of assimilation and think persistence have converged to construct the Sino Thai identity in Thailand. During Thailand\u27s era of rathaniyom (nationalism), the cloak of assimilation had pushed the expression of the Chinese self into the private sphere. Although the conscious articulation and real understanding of being Chinese (i.e. speaking the language, practicing the rituals, and communication with family members form the mainland) may have eroded with rathaniyom, a new understanding of being Sino Thai has been constructed to differentiate the Sino Thai from the Thas.
