Plans existed for several years to develop a major themed amusement park in San Diego County, California, utilizing an aviation/aerospace format and incorporating a wide variety of active and passive entertainment elements. After a search of various alternative locations in the San Diego area, an option was secured on a 340-acre property near the intersection of Interstate Highways 5 and 805 in the northern portion of the City of San Diego.
