A literary review and exploratory analysis of humor and team performance research was undertaken to determine if humor is a prevalent variable in team processes. Neither humor nor team performance has been studied together. The exploratory analysis was performed by viewing previously videotaped teams. This review gives reason to believe that humor can be utilized in the team process. The premise of the paper is that humor reduces stress, stress reduces team performance; therefore, humor has the potential to increase team performance. The research suggests that humor is a team process and it may also be a coping mechanism toward the threat of a stressor
