Government regulation has become one of the most discussed policy areas since the recent financial crisis. This symposium examines policy and managerial issues related to regulatory challenges, especially in the financial sector. This introduction to the symposium reviews major issues in government regulation-including motives, types, and consequences of regulation, inflation and costs, and effectiveness-and summarizes the findings of the four articles in the symposium.
