Experimental demonstration is presented of lasing in a gain-guided index antiguided Nd3+-doped phosphate glass core fiber. This type of lasing remains in its lowest-order mode even when pumped well above threshold, leading to excellent beam quality. (c) 2007 Optical Society of America
