This paper introduces an incremental validation method for knowledge-based systems (KBSs) based on a lifecycle model of system development. Although many validation methods have been proposed for KBSs, there remains a need for an incremental validation method based on a lifecycle model. Lifecycle models provide a formal framework for the developer that can be highly beneficial for the validation process. CommonKADS is the most commonly accepted of such lifecycle models. It offers a de facto standard for building KBSs. Moreover, the incremental validation method introduced in this paper is based on case testing and provides strict guidelines to selecting a set of test cases to validate the system.
