The widespread use of instructional computer networking can offer a variety opportunities and audiences for student writing tasks that go beyond conventional classroom assignments. With these new opportunities and audiences students are exposed to a wider range of social languages and written genres. This qualitative study examines the diversity of written genres produced by students through their participation in electronic computer network projects. This study indicates that network participation engages students in a range of written genres that extend beyond conventional teaching practices
