ライフ・ポリティックスの時代 : ギデンズのモダニティ論をめぐって

Anthony Giddens, who is a modern British sociologist, has written many books, and his latest books are The Consequences of Modernity (1990) and Modernity and Self-Identity (1991). This paper aims to introduce the contours of Giddens\u27theory of modernity, show its theoretical significance, and probe in the possibilities of revising and developing it. First, the theoretical construction of his theory of modernity is depicted as explaining the connections between life politics and its background. Second, the theoretical significance of his theory of modernity and the centrality of life plitics in it are showed whilie referring to his works for these 20 years and structuration theory which is his basic ontology. Third, the classification of existential questions, which are issues in life politics, are examined and revised. Some problems in directions of life politics are discussed, too
