Comparing the social welfare situation in Japan with that of the United States, Japan has greatly lagged behind the U. S. in computer use in the social welfare field. Furthermore, computer use in social welfare also lags well behind computer use in pedagogy, its adjoining field. However, computer use is becoming more common in the following fields: welfare for the physically handicapped and the elderly, administration, and health care and medical treatment. I retrieved articles from five main newspapers by using two key words: "welfare" and "computer." As a result of examining articles from the past several years, I found 150 appropriate articles. In this thesis, I made a detailed analysis of these 150 newspaper articles
