Pandillas en Cataluña. El abordaje desde la Policia de la Generalitat – Mossos d’Esquadra

In 2002, the presence of gangs was detected in Catalonia. The groups had their origins in bands from the American continent, with whom they maintained communication and dependency relationships. Since then, there has been steady increase both in the number of gangs and youth involved in them, as well as the level of criminal activity linked to these groups. The police corps have followed the evolution of these groups closely, although the social context is radically different and the levels of crime and violence are not comparable to the other side of the Atlantic. This article seeks to explain the Catalonia Government Troopers’ approach to this phenomenon during this time.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5377/rpsp.v1i2.1360En el año 2002 se detectó en Cataluña la presencia de pandillas que tenían su origen en grupos existentes en el continente americano, con los que mantenían comunicación y relaciones de dependencia. Desde entonces, ha aumentado progresivamente tanto el número de pandillas y de jóvenes involucrados en ellas, como la actividad delictiva vinculada a estos grupos. Los cuerpos policiales han seguido con atención la evolución de estos grupos, aunque el contexto social es radicalmente distinto y los niveles de actividad delictiva y de violencia no son equiparables a uno y otro lado del Atlántico.
