Entre tradición y experiencia:: la emergencia del saber americano en la farmacopea europea

This research shows us how the transmission of the botanical knowledge of pre-Hispanic societies to Europe has allowed the integration of the American pharmacopoeia to the general dynamics of scientific knowledge at the medical, cosmographic, astronomical and technical levels. This has been possible from the chronicles of the Indies and through the development of a process of overcoming the serious Eurocentric limitations of the historical study of medicine. The data collected by the author show the enormous importance of the subject of American nature and the contribution of this to the epistemology of medical science. This revelation generated a broad and at the same time descriptive and interpretative process by the Europeans since the beginning of the sixteenth century.Esta investigación nos muestra cómo la transmisión de los conocimientos botánicos de las sociedades prehispánicas a Europa ha permitido la integración de la farmacopea americana a la dinámica general del saber científico tanto a nivel médico como cosmográfico, astronómico y técnico. Esto ha sido posible a partir de las crónicas de Indias y mediante el desarrollo de un proceso de superación de las graves limitaciones eurocéntricas del estudio histórico de la medicina. Los datos recabados por la autora manifiestan la enorme importancia que tuvo el tema de la naturaleza americana y el aporte de ésta a la epistemología de la ciencia medicinal. Esta revelación generó un proceso amplio y a la vez descriptivo e interpretativo por parte de los europeos ya desde inicios del siglo XVI.   &nbsp
