There are significant resource challenges at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other limited resource institutions. Limited resources may not account for all of the performance gaps observed because of institutional mission differences and other socioeconomic factors. Resource limitations significantly impacts institutional capacity to develop and implement academic success programs. The NCAA has been both sensitive and responsive to these challenges and has recently implemented two notable programs to assist these institutions.
