Performing experiments for separation and recovery of titanium as titanium sulfide (titanium matte) from the slag by the reaction of pyrite on the slag of the smelting titaniferous iron sand, we obtained titanium matte containing 13% Ti and pig iron containing 2 to 4.5% S. The recovery of titanium was 96% at highest. 40% of calcium contained in matte can be extracted with water. More than 90% of titanium can be recovered by leaching with dilute sulfturic acid. Other method of recovery of titanium is to smelt the matte with ferrosilicon. Experiments were performed to extract titanium by roasting matte in the air and leaching it in water and 10% H_2SO_4.
