The effect of carbonaceous organic substances is investigated on the surface tension of pure sulfur. Measurement was taken of the samples artificially prepared by dissolving organic substances such as charcoal tar, and coal tar in pure sulfur. These in sulfur caused considerable changes in the surface tension. For an example, sulfur containing 0.01 to 0.05% C from charcoal tar was about 59 to 54 dyne/cm at 120℃. Further, sulfur containing 0.01 to 0.03% C from coal tar was about 60.3 to 58.5 dyne/cm at 120℃. Throughout the experiments, sulfur containg charcoal tar was thermally unstable and it was necessary to keep the same condition of measurements in comparison of various samples
