Polycrystalline gold specimens (99.999% Purity and 0.5 mm in diameter) quenched from 900℃ and aged to develope full hardening were deformed at temperatures between -196℃ and 300℃ at strain rates between 10^ sec^ and 10^ sec^. For strain rates faster than 10^ sec^, a yield point is observed and the yield stress decreases with increasing temperature. For strain rates slower than 10^ sec^, three temperature regions are found in the temperature-yield stress relation. An isochronal annealing experiment suggested that loops existed in the present specimen as well as stacking fault tetrahedra. The hardening is interpreted in terms of the faulted loop-dislocation interaction and the following mechanisms are assigned to the three temperature regions...
