The properties of cast iron were examined, relating with oxygen content. The oxygen amount was varied by covering molten cast iron with reduction and non-reduction refining slags. The results were as follows : (1) With the change in the oxygen amount, graphite form, qualities and heredity changed clearly. (2) The flaky graphite cast irons manufactured by the reduction refining were characteristically compared with other gray cast irons. (3) The characteristics of the hyper-eutectoid graphite cast steel were related to its manufacturing process and heat-treatment
