A novel technique using single light figure has been devised for determining orientations of small crystal grains, for which the orthodox light-figure method using two light figures cannot be applied. Full accounts are given of the principle and procedure for the orientation determination, factors affecting the accuracy, the limits of application, and actual examples of orientation works. This simple technique, of which the accuracy is at least within ±1°, can readily be applied to crystal grains with the smallest area of about 1 mm^2. It also serves as a simplified method of determining orientations of single crystals of any shape
