Difficulties That Nurses Faced at Home Visiting with Medical Acts : From Questionnaire to Home-visit Nurses

We studied 31 home care nurses in 13 visiting nursing station of home care service in north part of Japan by a questionnaire, regarding their experiences to find difficulties at home visit nursing. We focused on their problems that they faced when they conducted medical acts. The length of their clinical nursing experience ranged from 28 years to three years, and that of their home visit nursing ranged from nine to a year. A half of them administered that they had experienced the difficulties to provide nursing care along with medical acts. These nurses are significantly younger than others who had not experienced the difficulties. Three reported that they had met the difficulty to insert feeding tubes and two answered that they had felt insecure to change the tracheal cannula. These reporters were the nurses with clinically short experiences. Moreover, a couple of difficult cases were reported for each of securing IV-line at sudden change of patient\u27s condition,inserting needle of the port type IVH, and the responses to changed bedsore condition. Difficulties other than the medical acts were mostly observed at discrepancy between the practitioners and them on care planning and these were reported mainly by well experienced nurses.
