This article intends to call attention to the close relationship which exists between the figure of Don Quixote and the marginal characters and assorted weirdoes who appear in German literature during the 18th and 19th centuries. The analysis of the concept of madness in several texts from the late Middle Ages and the Baroque will enable us, on the one hand, to see how the publication of Cervantes’ novel and the consequent changes in society transformed this concept; and, on the other hand, to determine the importance of the idea of insanity for German letters, stressing the decisive role played by Don Quixote therein.El presente artículo trata de poner de relieve la estrecha relación que existe entre la figura de Don Quijote y la de los pe...
