Rām carit mānas or The Lake of Rama’s Deeds is a Rama Story sung by Tulsīdās of the 16th century in Hindi language. This Rama story is still sung and dramatized in North India on various occasions including the commemoration of Rama’s birth day.Rama was born as an incarnation of God Vishnu[I-201]. But responding to the wish of his mother, he also showed himself as a normal human baby[I-202].In this paper, the portions including curses and prophecies/dreams are shown first, and then the roles they play in the work are examined.Curses are often removed by the mercy of Rama: Ahalya was cursed by her learned husband and changed into a stone, but when she touched the feet of merciful Rama, she regained the human form [I-210].
