Effectiveness of distraction tactics on pain among children receiving anti rabies vaccine injection at outpatient department, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai

OBJECTIVES: Evaluate the effectiveness of displaying distraction tactics on pain among children receiving anti rabies vaccine injection at outpatient department GRH Madurai, associate the level of pain among children receiving anti rabies vaccine injection at outpatient department GRH Madurai with their selected socio demographic variables. HYPOTHESES: There is a significant difference in the post test level of pain between experimental group and control group among children receiving anti rabies vaccine injection at outpatient department GRH Madurai. There is a significant association between the level of pain among children receiving anti rabies vaccine injection at outpatient department with their selected demographic and clinical variables. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK: Based on Modified Roy’s Adaptation model. METHODOLOGY: A True experimental post test only design used. 60 subjects selected by consecutive sampling technique 30 experimental and 30 control group at Outpatient department at GRH, Madurai. Distraction tactics given 5-10 minutes before administration of anti rabies vaccine injection. Post test was assessed using Wong baker rating scale tool during anti rabies vaccine injection. FINDINGS: The study revealed that post test level of pain among children receiving anti rabies vaccine injection in control and experimental group mean difference was 3.26. The unpaired ‘t’ test value showed statistically significant difference t = 9.304, p = < 0.001. CONCLUSION: The study concluded that distraction tactics is a non pharmacological technique is cost effective and to reduce the level of pain among children receiving anti rabies vaccine injection
