INTRODUCTION Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common disease of the gastrointestinal tract(1). GERD is defined as symptoms or mucosal damage as a result of abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus or beyond(2). Common gastrointestinal symptoms are heartburn, regurgitation and retrosternal chest pain. Extra-gastrointestinal symptoms are bronchial asthma, laryngitis, hoarseness of voice, chronic cough, sore throat and dental erosions.
