This study was carried out on 38 patients with diabetes mellitus who presented with ischemic stroke and who were admitted in the medical intensive care unit, intermediate medical care unit and medical wards. Lipoprotein [a] was estimated by using the enzyme immunoassay using a monoclonal antibody against the Lp[a]. The lipoprotein [a] levels in this study [ ischemic stroke with diabetes mellitus] group were found to be significantly [p<0.001] higher than those of the control group. The mean values of Lp(a) for patients with diabetes mellitus and ischemic stroke was 45.03±19.19 mg/dl and that of the control group was 23.66±9.40 mg/dl.
