Many of the peoples in the world regard a mountain as their sanctuary and acmire it. This is also true of the peoples in southwest China; they believe that their gods dwell in the mountains. They consider the gods to be capable of saving their lives, so, they worship them. However, they also believe that the gods may harm them; However, they also believe that the gods may harm them; therefore, they make religious services to avoid displeasing them. In shis paper I discuss the mountain gods that the peoples in southwest China believe in, and the legends and rites that they inherited from their ancestors.
