The economic collapse of the 1930s, inducing major chnages in the role of government in American life, and preceding a war that dramatically altered the nation's role in world affairs, has been examined in a wide variety of ways. More significant for this depression was the collapse in the world of production and trade, and above all the record-breaking unemployment.
