Their money was tight and he became irate when his child decorated a box to put under their meager tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said. "This one is for you, Daddy". At first he was embarrassed by his overreaction the night before, but his temper flared again when he found the box was empty. Admonishing her, he said, "Don't you know that when you give someone a present, there's supposed to be something inside of it?" His little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "But Daddy, it's not empty. I blew kisses into the box, and all of them in there are for you." The father was moved to tears at her thoughtfulness and his own thoughtlessness. He put his arms around his little girl and he begged her forgiveness, which of course, she gave to him. He kept that gold box by his bed for many years. Whenever he was feeling down, he would take out -an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it in there. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. Milo Library Summer Reading Program 2017 The first Summer Reading Program of this summer was Tuesday July 4, and it has run every Tuesday since then. This year’s theme is “Canada” in conjunction with our country’s 150th birthday. The crafts and games the kids have participated in so far have been quite fun. For our first craft, we made “Bopper Headbands”. The craft was designed to encourage the kids to create something that expressed their personality and what they liked. The results of this lead to some pretty interesting headbands, as seen in the picture below. The picture to the right showcases the results of our “Atlantic Puffin” Craft We have had lots of fun so far, and there will be more to come! I hope to see you there! Nadine Bertschy In addition to playing indoor games, we have also had the chance to go to the park to play as well. The group favourite was beach volleyball: the kid’s vs the instructors. It would seem that the kids quite enjoyed making the instructors run for the ball. There have been many games that the kids have been able to play as well. One of their favorites so far has been one called “Broken Television”. How this game works is one person is shown a clue, and they then have 20 seconds to draw what they think the clue would look like. When their time is up, they pass their drawing onto the next person. This person then has to describe what the previous person drew. It then alternates its way around the circle until one revolution has been completed. The resulting drawings and descriptions led to quite a few laughs. The reason your children and their grandparents get along so well is because they have a common enemy - you. Money isn't everything but it sure keeps you in touch with your children. Retirement is the time in your life when time is no longer money. Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos? Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. Be nice to your kids. They'll be the ones who choose your nursing home. Why do Retirees smile all the time? Because they can't hear a word you're saying! Regular naps prevent old age, especially if you take them while driving. My grandfather has the heart of a lion and a lifetime t^an from local zoo. How can you tell that you're getting old? You go to an antique auction and see all your furniture! Another World's Oldest Man has died. This is beginning to look suspicious. How do you get a sweet little 80-year-old lady to say the “F" word? Get another sweet little 80-year-old lady to yell ‘BINGO*! If the music's too loud you're probably too old. Back in my day, we didn't watch TV while we ate dinner. We actually talked to each other. It was awful. I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older. Then it dawned on me ... they were cramming for their finals. A retired husband is often a wife's full-time job. You know you're fifty when your chiropractor begins to send you birthday cards. I don't date older women - because it takes too long to listen to their life story. I was at an ATM and this old lady asked me to help check her balance, so I pushed her in the shoulder, and sure enough, she fell over. The word “Happy” I asked my wife what she wanted for Christmas. She told me "Nothing would make her happier than a diamond necklace" So I bought her nothing. When I see ads on TV with smiling, happy housewives using a new cleaning product, the only thing I want to buy are the meds they must be on. People say money is not the key to happiness, but I always figured if you had enough money, you can have a key made. There's nothing like the joy on a kid’s face when he first sees the PlayStation box - containing the socks I got him for Christmas. To be happy with a man, you must understand him a lot and love him a little. To be happy with a woman, you must love her a lot and not try to understand her at all. As best man it is my job to tell you about the groom, and all the embarrassing things that have happened to him in the 28 years leading up to what was the happiest day of his life - or was before I started this speech. Some cause happiness wherever they go. Others whenever they go. If the fortune has turned her back on you, you can do whatever you want behind her back. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Then it's just a game. Find the eye! At the Comic Convention, all I could think was how happy these people's moms must be to have the house to themselves for a few hours. The only thing more important than your happiness is mine, so get on it. Money can't buy happiness, but it can help you look for it more quickly, in a convertible, with a good looking helper. It is said that, you can’t buy happiness. You only need to know the right places... Money can't buy happiness, but it sure does make misery easier to live with. For my wife's birthday, I bought her a fridge freezer. I know it's not much, but you should have seen her face light up when she opened it. Despite my last 12,000 tweets& posts, I'm actually really fun. Whenever I see you there is a smile on my face. Researchers at the University of Exeter and King’s College London earned out online testing on more than 17,000 healthy people aged 50 to gauge their memory, attention and reasoning. They found that the more regularly participants engaged with word puzzles, the better they performed on tasks assessing attention, reasoning and memory. From their results, researchers calculate that people who engage in daily word puzzles have brain function equivalent to 10 years younger than their age, on tests of grammatical reasoning speed and short-term memory accuracy. The researchers say that if it was proved causal, a daily crossword could help prevent mental decline in later life.
