I came across this one in my treasure trove and thought it would give you something to think about. The Dash by Linda Ellis I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning to the end. He noted that first came her date of birth and spoke the following date with tears. But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth. . And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth. For it matters not how much we own; the cars, the house, the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard; are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real. And always try to understand the way other people feel. And be less quick to anger and show appreciation more. And love the people in our lives like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respectfully and more often wear a smile. Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So, when your eulogy is being read, with your life's actions to rehash Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash? Remember, by asking ourselves how we want to be remembered, we plant the seeds for living our lives as if we matter. (Those who feel they are Master Photo­bombers: your amazing talents may not translate well with an alcohol soak.) • Hard to open doors, in other words - doors. • Any wheeled object (powered or not, see item i above) with controls that you feel you master. • Heights - this also includes long staircases, and especially ladders, also benches and tables. • Glass in general - it starts with beverage containers, and as the evening progressed, encompasses everything. • Situations involving full beverage containers which you have difficulty totalling up. • Aspiring hairdressers - no matter how attractive. • Any decision involving removal of body hair before the next morning - special hazard alert for the word "wax" • Pizza slices with any topping (eg. extra cheese) that may later assist you in mistaking the food for a pillow. • Hugs from people who have declared in a loud voice - usually by now one you can clearly hear over others - that they "Love you!" • High heels or platform shoes - no matter how comfy they may initially seem. • Dance floors - the more crowded, the higher the hazard of "perceived noxious interference", or "comments requiring physical correction". • Any attempt to seduce or in any other way interact emotionally with an ATM or VLT. (They just don't care.) Top 20 ways to tell someone their fly is unzipped, because, honestly now, THEY NEED TO KNOW. 20. The cucumber has left the salad. 19.1 can see the gun of Navarone. 18. A ceiling Fan can hit a baseball a long way. • The glass in windows (even double pane) will not stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan. • When you hear the toilet flush and the words "Uh-oh," it is too late. • Certain LEGOs will pass through the digestive tract of a four year old, but don't rely on it. • Play Dough and Microwave should never be used in the same sentence. • Super glue is forever. • DVR's do not eject cheese slices, even though TV commercials may show they do. • Garbage bags do not make good parachutes. • Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving. • Always look in the oven before you turn it on, plastic toys do not like ovens. • The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earth worms dizzy. • Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.
