The students wili be given a Bicycle Safety Pamphlet. On the last page of the pamphlet there is a safety quiz. Have your child complete this quiz and send it away to the address on the back, he or she could be eligible to win one of 310 prizes. This pamphlet also contains one free .ticket for an elementary school student to the 1986 Calgary Exhibition and stampede. BUT PARENTS, most important of all, please help your child remember the bicycle safet rules. Over the past year several com­plaints have been reported to our members about young cyclists hazardously riding their bikes around town., showing no regard for ped­estrians or vehicles. Angie Dahl, David Sannes, Michelle Baril, Todd Carter, and Dana Stringam will be pre­forming the one act play, "Three's a Crowd", during the fashion show. The play is a comedy and is set during the evening of a graduation dance. Eddie (David Sannes) finds himself with two sisters and not enough money to get them to the dance. With the arrival of Eddie’s cousin on the scene, the problems of the evening are compounded as Eddie's date drops him and leaves him stranded with the younger sister and no money. The play is humorous and is timeless in its portrayal of both characters and situation. *************** Several Magrath Scouts received Chief Scout's Awards from Lt. Gov. Helen Hunley at a Southern Alberta Region dinner Saturday. Lethbridge Expos defeated the Magrath Pirates 19 - 12 to take third place in the eight team tournament. Firstly, the Hospital Board, the Hospital Administration and the Hospital Staff should be commended for operating such a beautiful up-to-date and well equipped hospital within the financial limits as subsidized by the prov­ince. For the past two years the town taxes were strained to meet the cost of property and site preparation for the impressive develop­ment. It is encouraging to see that there has been no further requisitioning of funds fr ,m the town taxes. Once again, hats off to the hospital personnel. Secondly, the financial requirements for the Senior Citizens home has almost halved. It appears Lhat the facility is not in full use at present and this expense will rise or fa’l according to the use factor of the lodge. Between the two foregoing facilities the tax requirement was reduced slightly in ex­cess of 5 mills or $5 for every $1000 of assessment, i.e. a property assessed at $40.000 would correspond to a $200 savings 1936 taxes. However on the other side of the ledger it app ars that the Municipal requirements rose from 10.6 mills in 1985 to 13.5 mills in 1986. This is a rise in excess of 27% and is defin­itely not good. If this is attributed to the new ice facility surely it must be in excess of what the financial spread sheet indicated when it was passed out to all ratepayers. Not only is the ice facility building cost excessive but the operating cost will be added in future years and may prove to be substantial f It is of the utmost importance that each operating element that comprises the mill, rate structure work to sustaining a good sound bud­get so that 'Then all elements tie added, the result will be a good mill rate. It does not seem right for one branch to economize and cut back on expenditures ihile another spends such fqnds realizing th? it u’iLJ be more or less absorbed when the total mill rate is Struck. It is imperative that the ratepayers be capital ex­rate are new High sincerely clearly informed when Municipal penditures that affect the mill proposed.
