Charlie Matkin acted as Master of Ceremonies for the event. Kathy Weihg accompanied the gathering on her accord-ian in the singing of ” 0 Canada". Grace was offered by Gaelynd Pilling. Mr. Matkin welcomed members and guests and Mayor Alan Dudley brought greetings from the Town of Magrath. Following the luncheon, Kathy Weing thrilled those in attendance with a medley of musical hits, playing her accordian and sound equip­ment - a one "gal" band. One minute silence was observed in memory of former Chamber of Commerce member Harold Boucher. John Thompson, M.L.A., introduced the guest speaker of the afternoon, Hospitals Minister Dave Russell who talked on, and explained the provinces' proposal of the user fee system for hospital use by patients. Janet Boucher thanked Mr. Russell for his informative talk. Following the noon luncheon of the Magrath & District Chamber of Commerce, history was made at the site of the new prop­osed $9 million Magrath 25 bed hospital at the sod-turning ceremony. Hospitals Minister Dave Russell turned the first shovel of sod with the assistance of Norma Pilling, hospital board chairperson, and John Thompson, M.L.A. Ceremonies were held on the present hosp­ital grounds with Mrs. Pilling as Mistress of Ceremonies. In attendance were Dr. Mark Dahl of the Magrath Clinic, Dr. Steele Brewerton, a former member of the Clinic, Walter Brown who was the first secretary treasurer of the Gerald Leishman recently retired istrator and Alan Skretting, new istrator. Mrs. Pilling gave a brief history of the Magrath hospitals, the former "old" hospital ì » located north of the Magrath Clinic later pur­chased by Richard Bradshaw and the present hospital which was opened in June 1951. Refreshments were served by members of the ?iagrath Hospital Auxiliary. At the annual meeting of the Magrath and district Chamber of Commerce held at a noon luncheon Wednesday, June 29th, Mrs. Sue Kado was installed as newly elected president and Mrs. Irene Blumel as secretary treasurer of the organization. f?
