CHINOOK HEALTH UNIT NEWS The Chinook Health Unit has been not­ified by Health and Welfare Canada to advise consumers to cook canned frozen Lobster Meat. As a result of an investigation into the presence of the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes in canned frozen Lobster Meat, consumers and industry have express­ed interest in whether this product can " be safely consumed. The Health Protection Branch, Health and Welfare Canada, advises that canned frozen Lobster Meat can be safely consumed if it is cooked thoroughly after it has been thawed. Canned frozen Lobster Meat should not be eaten uncooked directly from the can in dishes such as sandwiches or cold lobster salad. The Health Protection branch and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans are currently investigating the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in Canadian canned frozen Lobster Meat, and are working with the industry to introduce means to prevent its occurrence. The Magrath Fig­ure Skating Club is starting it’s 88-89 16 week session on Thursday, November 3rd from 4-6 p.m. There is still tine to register by calling Dianna McKelvey 758-3181; Sherry Godionton, 758-3188; or Allyn Nelson, 758-6294 or register at the Arena from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on November 3rd. Students should be at least 4 years old as of September 1/88. $30 fee at time of registration and $60 remainder to be paid by December 19th. Come and bring a friend. The Magrath Public Library is accept­ing applications for the position of Lib­rary Clerk. Must be a very good typist and able to work 35 hours per week. We have been approved for a PEP Grant. Work to start November 1/88. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: We have 1 position available this Fall under the PEP program. The position will be from November 1. 1988 to February 28, 1989. Applicant must be able to teach crafts, hobbies, and assist residents with personal needs. Hours will be flexible but will include a 5 day week, 8 hours per day. Funeral Services for the late Roy Sheridan who passed away October 14, 1988, were held in the Magrath LDS Stake Chapel Wednesday, October 19, 1988 with Bishop Watson Ririe officiating. The family prayer was offered by John Cook. Myrna Cook and Wilma Taylor attended the Mem­orial registers and Vinessa Hamilton presided at the organ for the relude music. Ushers were Shelton Ririe and Bud Strong. The opening hymn "Beyond the Sunset" was sung by Bessie Cook, Marie Stevenson, Charlotte Fletcher accompanied by Carol Lowry. Invocat­ion was offered by Jim Cook. Blair Sabey gave the biography and speaker for the service was Cal Alston. L. B. Tanner sang "Silver Haired Daddy of Mine" accompanied by Vinessa Hamilton. The closing hymn was "How Great Thou Art’ sung by Cam Atwood and accompanied by Carol Lowry. Steele Sheridan offered the benediction. Interment took place in the Magrath Cem­etery. Pallbearers were Patrick Sheridan, Kevin Sheridan, Rick Molnar, Stewart Sheridan, Randal Archibald, Shane Sheridan and Michael Archibald. '. The graveside dedication was by Dexter Archibald. Sidewalks; Estimated contractors price to complete one block of sidewalk four feet wide is approximately $13,000. Gravel: Motion passed to purchase 5000 yards of crushed gravel from the Ackroyd pit. Fire Prevention Week; Motion passed to purchase advertising from CHEC Radio advertising fire safety tips and acknowledging the volunteer service from members of the Fire Department. Cable TV; Request from W1 Cable to lease Town owned property at the rear of the Fire Hall but they had previously been advised that the land would hot be available to them. W1 is hoping to set up in Magrath in January. Pilgrims of Saint Michael; Motion passed to support the Pilgrims of Saint Michael in their efforts to recognize that the mothers are needed in the homes which is important to the future of the family and the nation. Parking Stalls; Motion passed that lines designating parking stalls be painted on 1st Street West between Harker Ave and Civic Ave. Town Survey; Motion passed that a deadline of October 31st be set for the Town survey to be returned to the Town office. They were duly charged, and when their cases came up for hearing the next day, they agreed that each should, in turn, have his case heard by the other. The first went before his friend, pleaded guilty, and was fined 10-shilIings. When they had changed places, the second magistrate, after pleading guilty, was shocked to receive a 15-shilling fine. “That’s a bit unfair,” he complained. “I fined you only 10 shillings.” “I know,” replied his colleague haughtily, “but there’s entirely too much of this sort of thing going on.
