Two of the men spent the night in the cold and suffered frozen feet. The other two airmen, one Martin Meincinger peached a farm home and suffered no ill effects from their experience. Martin is now home on Sevan day leave. In one of the hardest figits of the basket­ball season, Varsity managed to outdistance their opponents, the Bechtel Price Callahan team, to secure a 43-31 victory, (it spoke well for the non-smoking, non-drinking Varsity men, and believe it or not, fans, this a fact in spite of what people say about Varsity boys.) Bernard Critchfield, the boy from the south country of whom we spoke at the first of the season, really hit his strido, netting a cool twenty-two points alone and scoring eleven baskets out of a total of twenty-eight tries, which puts his scoring average close to .40. etc. etc." Mrs. A. B. Critchfield also informs us that Bernard has kept up with his studies and has taken an instructors course in military training and has received one stripe, that of lance­corporal. GINGERBREAD 8CUARES X 2 1 •2’ 1 L 233 cup butter (or substitute) cup brown sugar. cup molasses. cup warm mi Ik. cups flour, eggs. 3 tsps, ginger. -1 tsp. cinnamon. tsp, mace. -g- cup postum. 1 tsp. soda« Juice and rind of 1 orange. METHOD Cream sugar and shortening. Add grated rind and beaten eggs and blend well. Stir in molasses and milk. Sift spioes with flour and add to batter alternately with orange juice and postum. Dissolve soda in 1 tsp. hot water and add last. Beat well and bake in greased pan in moderate oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Cut in squares and serve hot with whipped cream or pudding sauce or ice with 7 minute icing, using g- cup sugar and j cup syrup. (Note; Chicken or turkey fat is excellent in this recipe.) —Mrs. Joyce R. I was sorry indeed to learn of Gordon Sabey's death; a nice boy and a fine athlete in the pink of condition, but I fear that before the year is out there will be many of our best boys sacrificed on the alter of war. Having a little tougher winter down south than usual this year, but ycu have nothing on the 'far north' and I am afraid that it will be the mwry month of May before all the slow that is piled up here disappears I don’t suppose you have any brqvjtn shoes yet that will fit me? Roy is chairman of the civilian committee for the Air Cadets in Magrath. Lion Tamer I. 0. Bridge loi the singing. Miss Mary Dudley entortpined the Club with a number of readings. Dave Baxter (ohef) assisted Charlie at the tables, chicken chowmein with pumpkin pie for dessert. Lion J, H. Buchanan gave one of the most timely and interesting talks of the ocrson. He took for his subject the annual state tent of the Town of Magrath. A tax collector is the town's groctest need he said. The town levy for 1942 wes $13,841.75 of which only $9,509.80 was collected. No improve- ' ments in town finances can be expected from a $13,841.75 levy and a $17,000.00 expense bill. Tho speaker emphasized that the expenditures must be cut or the collections increased if debenture payments ere to be met. Lloyd M.
