She left Wednesday morning to visit with relatives in Raymond and will return to Calgary Fri­day. Mr. Mi^c Heap of Lethbridge was a Mag-rath visitor on Tuesday. She is convalescing in the local hospital. Sunday afternoon, the Dlaine Neilson home was the scene of a delightful birth­day party, honouring Master Ricky Neilson and his sister, Janice, whose birthdays - were Sept. 18th a nd Sept, 20th, respect­ively. (Richard turned five and Janice three.) Friends and relatives present to help them celebrate were: Misses Donnie Brewerton, Judy Coleman, Elisabeth Harker, Wendy Coleman, Norma Joan Christensen, Carol Coleman and Linda Fury of Lethbridge; Masters Bernie Sabey, Conway Brewerton, Douglas Whitehead; and Mesdames Geneva Neil­son, Melva Christensen, Pearldean Jensen, Jean Coleman, Mary Fury and Miss Hope Alst­on of Lethbridge. THE GAMBLER He was the envy if the race track gent­ry— he was only 30 years of age but knew more about horses than any man twice his yeans. Folks said there was no better hand­icapper in the business--his mind was a ver­itable encyclopedia of facts about every im­portant race horse running at the major tracks—he knew their blood lines, their performance in various races, how they ran against certain classes of competition on dry tracks, wet tracks—whether or not they were front runners or stretch runners —their best distances, their best times. Just as important he knew the records and the capabilities of the jockeys. He care­fully selected the races and the horses on which to bet.only when the odds were right—in short when, on the basis of his experience he knew that he had the best ” chance to win the most money at the least risk. After a particularly successful day at the races, the man who knew the odds got into his high-powered car to drive back to " town. Traffic was moving along on the two-lane concrete road at a respectable 50- mile-an-hour clip. It was too slow—at 60 he figured he could save 5 minutes trav­el time. So he gunned her to 60 and began ■ passing. He saw the car approaching from the opposite direction, too late. They gave him a nice funeral—one of his old track pals figured the odds he took when he pulled out of line at sixty this way: — ”30 years old—with maybe 40 years to go. That’s 40 years x 365 days a year with 366 for leap year makes 14*610 days—times 24 hours a day makes 350,640 hours-, times 60 z minutes each hour, makes 21,038,400 minutes.
