The World Congress of Families 11 was held with representatives from around the world, including 15 people from Southern Alberta. The purposes of this Congress were to: 1. rally organizations and leaders to protect and fortify the natural family; 2. develop guidelines for the formulation and implementation of family-centred policies and laws; 3. raise worldwide awareness of the objectives and results of the Congress; 4. create ongoing structures for mutual cooperation and support The Honorable Grant Hill, MP, was one of the leaders who attended the Congress. He has graciously accepted an invitation to speak to our Magrath Community about his experience in Geneva. We were scheduled to make a presentation to the C.H.R. board on the 27th of Jan. In light of information we have received, we feel that a presentation made at a later date wou he more effective. We would like to thank those who took time to personally write letters to the C H R These letters had a positive impact o decisions that are before the C.H.R. The board is exploring many different options as follows. 1. Leave the Magrath hospital at it’s current leve 2. Expand our current long term care facility, by adding 20 more long term care beds. These wou be in the form of an assistant living facility. 3 Working towards an all encompassing community health center in the existing facility. This would involve all aspects of our health care system hospital committee would like again to thank all who have written, phoned, or voiced their concern. "Forbidden fruit creates many jams." Magrath Pee Wee Chiefs Undefeated Lethbridge Blues Fall to Chiefs. The Lethbridge Blues had been undefeated in Spud League play including a previous 7-1 win over the Magrath Pee Wee Chiefs. Wed night's game at the Labor Club proved "you can't win them all". In our last meeting the Chiefs shut down the Blues in the 3rd period of play, and the momentum was carried into this 4-1 win. The Chiefs came out playing a solid defensive game, allowing few quality shots. The defence coupled with goalie Layne Gill's "seeing eye" catcher glove shut down several rallying attempts by the Blues. A tipped puck at 13:55 of the 3rd period spoiled our shut out. The boys simply played though & dominated. The scoring was done by J. Rudd 1-1, A. Wamboldt 1-1 assist, R. Ririe 1 goal, S. Ragan 1 goal. Helpers on the play were L.Hofer 1 assist, S. Nishikawa 1 assist, B. Koskewich 1 assist. Chiefs successful in North Division Match up The Pee Wee Chiefs traveled to Brooks on Sat. Jan. 29 for a meeting with the Brooks Tigers of the Spud League north division. The Chiefs are 8-3-0 in the south division & were anxious to test the competition "way up there". The coaches were disappointed that our win was so lopsided. The Chiefs trounced the Tigers 13-1 in a game that did little to enhance our game. The game did give some of the players an opportunity to try their hand at different positions. On a positive note the Chiefs looked sensational in the new Magrath Minor jerseys. The Hockey Board is to be congratulated, as their hard work looks outstanding. You can see for yourselves on Sat. Feb. 5 @ 7:45 p.m. when the Chiefs host the Lethbridge Blues the current league champions.
