Our Town Celebration will be held this year on Magrath’s Birthday, July 24, 1976. Following is a tentative schedule of events for Friday and Saturday, Keep it handy for further reference. The events begin with a dr.nce Friday evening in the Big Gym. Saturday will begin with a pancake .’•eakfast followed by our parade. A short program and Kids Relay Races. This year we are having an Amateur Race Meet at the Rodeo Grounds. Cont­act Robert Rasmussen for entries to events and for further information. Get those horses in shape for the excitement of the day. The day will wind up with a Barbeque at the Fish Pond. Watch for further details and times in coming weeks. FARMSTEAD BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM "Beautify the Farmstead^ should be the motto of most every farm and ranch family in the M.D. of Cardston. To encourage families to carry on such a program the M.D. is sponsor­ing a "Farm Beautification Contest" to run the next three years. Prize m'oney will be paid on the following basis: 1976 & 1977 - 1st - $50.00 2nd - $25.00 (each year). 1978 - 1 $300.00, 2nd - $200.00. The final prizes paid in 1978 will be awarded on the basis of overall improvements made from 1976 to 1978. Entries can be made at the M.D. office building or the Extension Office, Cardston, starting immediate­ly close on Friday, July 9/76. POPULAR St. Joseph’s Catechism Children and teachers gathered at St. Joseph's for a special Children’s Mass with Rev. Father Finn of Lethbridge recent­ly. Scripture readings were by Marcy Michaud and Brian Tricsli. Following Mass the teachers treated the child­ren to hot dogs, punch'*and other goodies at Jubilee Park. Catechism classes will resume in September with Culture Convenor Louise Bengry arranging classes. The final Band Concert of the seaso. under the direction of Band Master Boyd Hunter was held in the Big Gym Wednesda. evening and was pronounced an outstand­ing success by those in attendance. Most enjoyable was the Band’s accomp­animent of Miss Sharon: Sam as she played Grieg’s Piano Concerto. Mr. Hunter made presentations a number of Grade 12 students who be leaving the band this term and have remained with the band since be­coming a member. Included were Arlen Bennett, Karen Taylor, Roberta Rass­mussen, Jim Mikado, Rob Rollingson, Reed Mendenhall, Scott Robinson, Ken Dahl, Courtney Brewerton. After the members calves hooves were trimmed, the members practised for the showring with their calves. Mrs. Helen Newton and Mrs. Mavis Barnett served a delicious lunch pre- ■ pared by the members’ mothers. Pres. Byron Koskewich brought meeting to order.with Bruce Hillmer ing in the 4 H pledge and Ed Newton ing in ” 0 Canada".Secretary Eileen Juhasz took roll call by the color of the. members’ eyes and read her minutes from the last meeting. Bruce Hillmer gave his treasurer’s report. Leader Charlies Barnett gave inform­ation - a Truck & Tractor Rally is being held in Lethbridge on August 7th. Ed Newton handed out Achievement Days Schedules and explained them. More details were discussed about Achievement Days. A group activity was discussed. Girls were judged on their dismount, riding at a walk, trot and lope, tack, general horsemanship, and the appearance of horse and rider to­gether. Sandra Cooper of Warner was chosen Queen for 1976. First Attend­ant was June Twitchen of Magrath, second attendant was Barbara Duell of New Dayton and Collett Littlejohn of Raymond was chosen Miss Congeniality. Prizes for the queen are: 1. She was awarded a scholarship of $1800.00 by the Canada Council. Miss Harris graduated from the fac­ulty of Music of Brandon University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Music Degree and winning two silver medals. She attended the University of Toronto and studied Performance under Vladimir Orloff and now has her "Artists" degree in music. She began studies on the cello with Mr. Alex Whyte of Rivers. She plans to teach music in Toronto and play with the Hamilton Symphony Orchestra. The Alberta Wheat Pool held the annual Golf Tournament Saturday at the Magrath Golf Course. Twenty four golfers enjoyed playing golf followed by a Pot Luck Supper. In the Men’s Division Gerry Gorrill won the Championship, Randy Gorrill second, George Fyfe third. In the Ladies golf, Kay Gorrill won the Championship, Maxine Kraft was second and Georginia Fyfe, third.
