They are starting to look at poss­ibilities for upgrading and extras, should enough contributions beyond the objective come in. This would certainly increase the value and function of the building in our comnunity, so please make your donation before the June 1st’ deadline if you are planning to contribute to this project. The Gymnasium Committee would like to acknowledge Recreation Parks and Wildlife for theiridonation of $15,000. Progress is also being made on applications for government grant money; and our MLA, Jack Ady, is helping with this. Unfortunately, bureaucratic snags have prevented the gymnasium committee from gett­ing a tax number for '88 tax purposes. They are still pursuing all avenues in hopes of getting this by next year. DISTRICT HOME ECONOMIST NEWS GLOVES AND PESTICIDE SAFETY GO HAND IN HAND Establish a "Rubber Glove Zone" on your farm when handling pesticides. Always protect your hands with unlined nitrile or neoprene gloves when handling, mixing or pouring con­centrated pesticides. Never wear cloth or leather gloves as they soak up the chemical and are a constant source of contamination. Exposure studies show that when an oper­ator is using a tractor-pulled sprayer, the hands receive the greatest exposure to pest­icides. It is therefore reconmended that gloves also be worn when you are actually spraying pesticide. Never remove your gloves to make adjustments to your spraying equip­ment. To prevent pesticide from running down inside your gloves, wear your coverall sleeve over top of the gloves. If possible, wash the outside of the gloves before they are removed, otherwise, take them off carefully to avoid contaminat­ing the inside of the glove. Wash protect­ive gloves after handling concentrated chem­icals and after daily use. Pesticides can penetrate into the material. Replace gloves immediately if holes or rips occur. Take care when handling pesticides to ensure that gloves and pesticide safely go hand in hand. JOPSEPH'S C.W.L. More than 7,000 units of the "Cosco Auto Trac" child restraint have been distributed across Canada with a potential safety defect, warns: the Alberta Motor Association. This seat has a retractable harness sys­tem which should automatically adjust to fit the child. But the webbing guides are too narrow and don't allow the harness to retract fully. In a collision, a child's body would move too far forward, possibly resulting in serious head injuries. The defective seats were manufactured by Cosco Inc. and distributed in Canada by Cam­bridge Recreation Products between January 1, 1987 and December 31, 1988. Owners of child restraint seats should examine the information label found on the back of all approved units. If it's a "Cosco Auto Trac" distributed by Cambridge Recreation Products, consumers should imm­ediately contact Dorel Industries Inc. at (514) 323-5701, or write them at 4750 Des Grandes Prairies, St. Leonard, Quebec, H1R 1A3.
