Her poem entitled "The Fairy Queen,11 was chosen from 24,000 entries. The 13 year old farm girl’s education has been entirely by correspondence course. On the Town’s Financial statement for the year ending Dec.31/54, under Expenditures is the item (Protection,$4,640.50) The Trading Co.paid ^2195.03 In taxes in 1954. During 1954 robbers broke in to the store, looted all the cash registers and how much merchandise we don’t know. They were never apprehended. The Neon sign cost $703.00. Hoodlums throwing stones, snow balls etc. have wrecked it. Du© to vandalism it is im­possible to keep it in repair. If the $4640.5'' was for protection of property, then the money spent was wasted. None of it came our way. In the Lethbridge Herald our own corres­pondent, writing of town affairs says,"The financial statement showed school requisitions paid to date." A Progressive Party was held on Friday night with Mr. & Mrs. Duane Harker, Nyal Fletcher,Lon Hovey and Kenneth Hindle as hosts' and hostesses'. Those present were Mr. Emerson Blumell, Mr. & Mrs. ^eo. A highlight of the evening was the oyster eating contest. Ken Hindley and Ray Harker tied with 24 oysters each. Pretty good but still a long way from the champion who ate 428 oysters in 68 minutes. Grandfather:"You don't know what it is to be old and bent." Gragdson:"No. but I know what it is to be young and broke."® Below is part of a letter written by Mrs. Dora Jensen to relatives in town. Mrs. Jensen has been visiting her daughter and son-in­law in Hawaii for the last three months. -"It is still winter down here.Saturday we went in to Honolulu and stayed until Sunday. Pres. McKay and wife and others who went with them on their trip to the Pacific Missions were there. We went to the Taber­nacle Saturday night. Priesthood meeting for the men and Relief Society Conference for the women. It really was »n inspiration. These people down here have such wonderful voices. There were over 550 at Relief Society Conference and over 700 at Priesthood meeting. After the services they had a food sale. ’ (Irene Chipman Cannon) was in charge of it. They are trying to raise money to buy power sewing machines to use in their welfare work. Sunday it was stormy and cold so we stayed home and saw Conference on Television. Note:- Irene Chipman Cannon is the young­est daughter of the late John I. Chipman and Mrs. Chipman. Geo. Gurney purchased the Chipman home.
