While In Cambridge, England, visiting a distant cousin, Harry Bennett, I was taken down Magrath Ave. - so named in remembrance of his relatives in Magrath. It was heartwarming to see a bit of home so far from home. I tried to take the street sign for a souvenir but was too securely fastened. At the London L.D.S. Mission Home I had a pleasant visit with Archy F. Bennett who wished to extend his greetings to all his friends and relatives in Magrath. Dad’s subscription to the Store News has expired. FRESH HAMBURGER & SAUSAGE, per lb.......... 270 J ,0n Wednesday, Aug. 20th, the Magrath Juniors motored to Medicine Hat for a play-off series with the Medicine Hat All-Stars. In the first game Wilfly, who is signed to attend the Brooklyn Dodger spring training camp in Florida, was credited with the win, striking out 16 and issuing only 4 hits, one of which was a triple by Karren, Toomer, who was charged with the loss struck out 12 and gave up 13 hits before he was relieved in the 8th by Gorill, who struck out the two remaining batters. Sabey led the Magrath batters with 2 hits. Final Score 7 to 1, favor of the Hat, Magrath got off to a bad start in the first / inning of the second game as the All-Stars / took advantage of 3 hits, a walk and 5 errors to the extent of 6 runs. After that Magrath went to town, gathering 15 hits including triples by Toomer and Gorill, but they were just too scattered to score.more than 6 runs. We wish to thank those ardent supporters who gave their time and cars free of charge, and also those of the senior ball cluh who loan­ed us their ball suits. From experiments conducted at the stat­ion, a heavy infestation of stinkweed about 2-iy inches tall was found to have taken 220,000 pounds of water from the upper 18 inches of soil in an acre. It isn't so easy to get used to normal life when you have been prisoner for. 7-g- years. And on the other hand it is no narrow here in Eurppe —there is no room to move. In our province for example about 300 people.are living where in Canada 1 man lives. You hardly can take breath. Well, some time I'll get used to it, to our ruins and the stfange kind of people I found here. And this is the worst besides the food situations People, have changed with the fall of the 3rd Reich, They zhave lost everything, moral, human feelings, Christian love and a decent behavior. Perhaps you can imagine the joy of my parents and mine too for am I ever glad to have them again! They are 63 years old and have wait­ed long enough for me. They were very lucky during all these incessant bombing raids when so many people lost their homes and even their lives. All our neighbors are bombed out living in ruins or cellars, one of them lives with us who are so lucky to have still a roof over our house, which only has some cracks and fissures, partly it was destroyed by a fire but father built it up again. So we are trying to make a living. We are trying hard but it is so difficult. You can­not imagine what it means for a housewife to f^ed their beloved ones even if I would tell you a big story. Worst of all is that there is no fat in the rations. Well, you can eat your bread dry and the few potates boiled. But after a couple of years you are done. And that's the state of my parents. So I come to you with asking for a favour. Would you be so very good and send some saccharin- tablets? This saccharin is urgently wanted by our peasants and mother could trade with we do need so badly. God may bless you for it. Perhaps I can do you a favour from here some day when times are better.
