He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, a _ daughter Mrs, Irene Minion of Raymond, four sons, Harry and William of Picture / Butte, Hazer of Great Falls, Mont, and y Bert of Magrath. Berge, age 68 years, who died sudden­ly Wednesday evening, were held Monday afternoon at the United Church with Rev. Walter Ward officiating. Two hymns were sung by the congregation with Mrs. Con­nie Grant presiding at the organ. Elmer Ririe spoke words of comfort to the mourners. Members of the Ladies Aid carried the floral tributes. Pallbearers were Frank P. Miller, Frank Bauer, Darrel Nelson, William R, Scott, S. R. Toomer and Arch Howes, Christenson Bros, were in charge of arrangements with interment taking place at the local cemetery. This is the advice of Dr, E. E. Ballantyne, director of Provincial Veter­inary services. Rocke, who left for Edmonton where he has accepted a position with the Alberta Government, The even­ing was spent playing Rook with high prizes being won by Mrs, Vinnessa Hamilton, Mrs. Hazel Spencer, Mr. H. C. Poul-gen- and Mr. Clyde Spencer. Mr. Rocke expressed his thanks for the courteous treatment he had received during his stay here. J. J. Strang re­plied on behalf of the guests. His uncle refus­ed an offer of 28£# for 70 steers. - This reminds us that Dave Keeler on Tuesday sold 19 steers (good ones) for $17.50 and six others, not so good, for $15.50. All grain fed for over six months. C. Spencer. The music was led by Joseph C. Critchfield with Mrs. Maud Ririe at the organ* The opening song was "Sometime We-11 Understand" and the opening prayer was offered by Earl Harker. Hall C. Poulsen sang "The Old Rugged Cross". M. Elmer Ririe and Bishop C. C. Spencer were the speakers. A vocal solo "The Stranger of Galilee" by / Reece Gibb, after which Nyal Fletcher ren- 1 dered a violin solo "Going Home". Closing song by the choir "Abide with Me." Earl P. Tanner offered the closing prayer. George T. Dudley dedicated the grave. The many beautiful floral tributes were carried by members of the Relief Society. Pallbearers were J. F, Hamilton, Frank J. Miller, Warren Harris, Oscar Blumell, Tom Erickson and Lynn Harker. Interment took place at the local cemetery with Christenson Bros, in charge of arrangements. P. M. Sauder, the manager of the St. Mary's Milk River Development, of Strathmore, and George Brown, Assist, Mgr, of Lethbridge, were in the Magrath Irrigation District to check up on where the new highway crosses the Magrath Irrigation District Ditches. Some of the ditch work is not up to standard and the Magrath Irrigation District is asking Mr. Sauder to use his influence frith the Government to have them properly construct­ed. They are also interested in further development of irr3£tion in this district and anyone north or south of tho town of Magrath wishing irrigation should make their application to the Magrath Irrigat­ion District for the amount of water want­ed before the water is allocated elsewhere. THE COUhivIL GAN DO NO WRONG One Town Councillors Wednesday even­ing in the presence of many witnesses while elaborating on the proposed new by-law prohibiting cows pasturing on the streets..( Cows must be tagged. First offense §1.00, 2nd $2.0fl up to $5.00. (with butter 710 a lb.) stated that the present Councillors being duly elected that whatever they did was the will of the majority of tax­payers.) It is a long time since we heard that dogma expressed. In other [/ words the majority of tax-payers want their assessments and taxes raised. T' ey like debt. In order to borrow from t^e bank the council first must get consent of the Utility Commission, During 1947 the deficit was $5000*00. Is this what the taxpayers voted for? We don't think so. The thing that burns us up is to allow the sewer to clog up with refuse, silt and waste, all for the need of a weekly flushing. Result thousands of dollars wasted. However if this is what the majority want then the rest can take it and like it, Jesse Strang’s shovel turned up miss­ing. We know it wasn’t any of his neig-j/ hbors that took it. We have never seei one of them use a shovel. Sunday, Mr. & Mrs. Wm, Jacobs celebrat­ed their Golden Wedding Anniversary at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Lynn Harker, about 125 guests called to congratulate them. Miss Marjorie Harker assisted in receiv­ing the guests. The rooms were beauti­fully decorated in orange and white, and a 3-tiered cake TJith candles centered the table. Beautiful gifts and flowers were presented to the guests of honor. Out-of-town guests included; Mr. & Mrs. Dick Osterburg (Edith Jacobs) of Leth­bridge. Tuesday, Elige Bourne and yours truly motoring from Twin Rivers,while making a detour were mired down for three hours, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Chains were put on,rocks and timbers put under wheels but to no avail.
