The red tractor with the disc type mower that has been seen around the County seems to be able to cut well. It has done 70 - 80 miles a day so can cover a lot of roads. We are looking at getting another unit, and may not need to use the old grader mower,as they are expensive to run. The dirt crew have done most of the work that was planned for the season. If you can-find time it might be interesting to see that area before it is full of water. It will certainly change the look of that river valley forever. Several farmsteads have had to be moved to higher ground, some long established farms have had to be rebuilt, all at tax­payers expense, of course. I have been following the Taiwan Sugar story in the farm papers for some time. I have to wonder what do you expect to see and do in our agriculture area. Young and not so young farmers are searching for off farm income these days . How many jobs would 14 hog barns produce. How many bushels of barley would they use^These jobs would be for labour, truckers, feed suppliers etc But not in my back yard. If the gov't can't help what to do. Sort term cash for long term farming pain. Farms have a smell, it can't be helped, the clean country air is not so clean as city folk might think . From a municipal stand point, squatters pay a lot of taxes on their 3 acre parcels, but in the end they ruin the reason they move to the country in the first place, asking and demanding services from the municipality, causing increased cost to our ratepayers. With modern technology it is possible to eliminate nearly all the smell from a hog operation. Probably easier than to control the smell from a cattle feed lot. There were 5 members and Pastor Ed present at our meeting of Oct. 11th. Marilyn conducted the bible study, which was followed by the devotional reading and offering. Pastor Ed opened the business portion of the meeting with prayer. Minutes of the September meeting were read and approved. Carol gave the treasurer's report. The Esprit subscriptions are ready to send in. A thank you and check was received from the family of Hugh Winch. Canadian Bible Society also sent a thank you for the -donation made in memory of Hugh. The Fall Workshop is to be held on Oct. 14th at Christ Trinity in Lethbridge. Several plan to go. Parish meeting to be held at Lomond Oct 19th. with lunch at 6 P.M. and the meeting a 7 P.M. We are having our Praise Offering service at church on Sunday, Oct. 15th. We were asked to serve morning cottee and noon lunch at our church on Oct. 17 at our South Alta. Pastors Meeting. Ins is arranging for the food. It was moved and carried to send an ottering to a Marriage Enrichment seminar ar Mt. St. Francis Retreat Center, to be held Oct” 29th. Audrey presented ,s§me Christmas crafts she had made and we agreed to use them as models for table favors for our Christmas Party, to be held Dec. 4th. Marilyn offered to go on a committee with Ethel and Jean to send out the Party invitations. We made up 22 layettes, 17 Klenli Kits and 14 school kits for Lutheran kk or 1 d Relief. Our thanks to all who max have contributed to these Special thanks go out to Carol Vooys, Julie Nelson and Iris Gough who sewed 99 diapers for the layettes. i he meeting was adjourned and Iris . served a lovely lunch. __ e/' Bible Study for Nov.-1 larriet \ ■- Hostess for Nov-Francis Cleaning for Nov.-Joan Village of Milo Minutes from the September 18, 2000 Meeting The regular meeting of the village of Milo was held monday, September 18, 2000 at the village office. Present were Mayor Bath, Councillor Vooys and Municipal Administrator Dorothy Way. The minutes of the meeting held August 14, 2000 were read. Mayor Bath moved adoption of these minutes. Councillor Vooys attended an Oldman River Intermunicipal meeting where the discussion was on proposed feedlots in the Picture Butte area. A letter was received from the Vulcan County stating that the county council has chosen not to operate the Village of Milo's Emergency Public Warning System at this time. It was noted that in the vast majority of disaster situations that could potentially arise in the Village of Milo area, the county would likely be affected as well. If such a circumstance were to happen then the Vulcan County would be activating the Emergency Public Warning System regardless. The Municipal Administrator will contact Mr. Wally Shouldice and find out if it is all right for us to change the date of the Communications Meeting. We received a letter from the Vulcan County in regards to dust abatement at the Milo School. The letter stated that the county will look at it once all other abatement work for the current year has been completed and if there are any dust abatement supplies left in stock. The Next meeting of the Village of Milo was set for Monday October 16, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Office. The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m. GREY CUP PARTY 2000 MILO CURLING CLUB NOVEMBER 26, 2000 3:30 P.M. (KICK-OFF @ 4:00) PLEASE BRING SNACKS.The Milo Lions Pancake Supper and Turkey Bingo will be held on December 9th at the Milo Hall Supper at 5:30 p.m. Bingo at 7 p.m.I would like to take this opportunity to thank the MILO FALL FAIR committee members, volunteers, and our families (who are left on their own for three hectic days), while we get ready for the fair. Many volunteers were sick, tired, injured, or had loved ones who were ill at home or in the hospital, which added to our burden My child was side at home for two long nights before the fair, and still coughing after.
