Present were Mayor Vooys, Councillor Phillips, Councillor Whaley and Municipal Administrator Dorothy Way. The minutes of the meeting held on February 18, 2002 were read. Councillor Whaley moved the adoption of the minutes. CARRIED. The Economic Development Committee meeting was held on March 14th. Councillor Whaley has 4 meetings this week. Councillor Phillips has a fire meeting March 28th. The Town of Vulcan and Vulcan County will put funds into the Economic Development, no funds will be put in by the Villages unless necessary. The Town of Vulcan and the Vulcan County each have 3 members and the Villages each have 1 member sitting on this committee. The Marquis Foundation has started the work on their renovations which include the addition of four new rooms. FCSS is running along smoothly. Councillor Whaley rescinded the second and third readings of By-law # 337 on December 17, 2001. CARRIED. This By -law #337 which is the Electric Distribution System Franchise Agreement between the Village of Milo and UtiliCorps Canada (Alberta) Ltd., the right to provide distribution access Services within the Municipality. Councillor Whaley MOVED the first reading November 19, 2001. CARRIED. Councillor Phillips MOVED the second reading March 18, 2002. CARRIED. Mayor Vooys Moved that the by-law be given a third and final reading at this meeting. CARRIED. Councillor Whaley MOVED the third and final reading of by­law #337. CARRIED. The Municipal Administrator will advertise a Notice of a Public Hearing in regards to the amendments to by-law #322 the Land use By-law for the Village of Milo. The amendment is to delete the term Moved-in Dwelling from Schedule 2 Residential -discretionary uses and add “Moved -in Building” and amend definition of “Building, moved in Schedule 11 to include “ and may include a dwelling. Mayor Vooys MOVED the first reading of the amendment to By-law #322. CARRIED The Municipal Administrator will do a census for our information only. The Village of Milo Council declined the accreditation program offered by Alta. Permit Pro. Councillor Whaley MOVED that the Village spray the west side and the alleys for dandelions when we have a proper weather setting to do this. CARRIED. We will find someone to do this. There is a Geographic Information System Partnership Meeting March 19, 2002 at the ORIS A Boardroom in Lethbridge at 9:00 a.m. to Noon. No one from the Village of Milo will attend this meeting. The next Council meeting of the Village of Milo was set for Monday, April 15, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Office. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.G. EVERYONE WELCOMEJUNIOR HIGH BADMINTON 2002 By Maria Bushell On April 19th, 2002 junior high students from across the county met at the CRC to battle it out in badminton for positions to play in the badminton zones on May 4th at Medicine Hat. Milo had various representatives in most of the divisions. Darren Thompson was the lone representative in the Midget division, playing boys singles. In the midget division, Evan and Travis Deitz competed in the boys doubles division, Maurissa Umscheid and Jennifer Way compete in the girls doubles division and Russel Heather competed in the boys single division. Byron Thompson and Chad Hingley both compete in Juvenile boys singles. In the juvenile girls singles, Milo was represented by Michele Umscheid. Competing in the juvenile boys doubles was Curtis Vannatta and Justin Thompson and in the juvenile mixed doubles Kyle Gauthier and Maria Bushell competed. For most of the divisions, the tournament was a round robin, with playoffs between the top two teams and in singles, the third and fourth place players. All the competitors from Milo tried hard and played their best. Darren Thompson, in his first year of junior high badminton brought home a silver medal. In the Juvenile category, Michele Umscheid brought home another silver. In the boys singles, Chad Hingley played a long and challenging game and was able to bring home the gold, while Byron Thompson played off for third place but unfortunately came up short and placed fourth. In the doubles category, Justin Thompson and Curtis Vannatta brought home a silver medal and Maria Bushell and Kyle Gauthier brought home a gold medal. On May 4th, the gold and silver medalist’s in singles and gold medalist’s in doubles will travel to Medicine Hat and compete at the zones level. For the juveniles, Chad Hingley, Michele Umscheid, Maria Bushell and Kyle Gauthier, it will be another opportunity to win gold, as they competed last year in zones. This will be Darren Thompson’s first year competing at this level. Congratulations to all those who competed in Vulcan and Good luck to those traveling to Medicine Hat!
